Legal
Privacy policy.
Poured is a recipe book, not a data business. This page explains exactly what the app does with your photos, your recipes, and your phone — in plain English.
Effective July 12, 2026
- Your recipe book stays on your phone. Saved cocktails, photos, and tasting notes are stored only on your device. There are no accounts and nothing syncs to us.
- Two things get sent for AI processing: the photo of a bar menu you scan, and the drink text we build a recipe from. We pass them through and discard them — we never store them.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no data sales. The app contains no third-party tracking code of any kind.
Who we are
Poured is made by Vocal LLC. If you have a question about this policy or about your data, email us at hello+poured@vocaljournal.co and a human will answer.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in Poured is stored locally, in the app's private storage on your iPhone:
- Saved cocktail recipes, including any edits you make
- The menu photos you scan and the drink photos you snap
- Your tasting notes and ratings
- The place you logged a drink (a text label like "Bar Name · City")
- Your measurement preference (ounces or millilitres)
There is no account, no login, and no cloud sync — not even iCloud. We cannot see your recipe book, and neither can anyone else. Deleting the app deletes all of it, permanently.
What leaves your device, and why
Poured only sends data off your phone when you actively ask it to make a recipe. Two things are sent:
- The menu photo you scan. It's resized and sent so an AI model can read which drinks the menu lists.
- The drink text. When you pick a drink, its name, the ingredients printed on the menu, and the menu's flavour description are sent so a model can write the full recipe.
Both requests go through our own server (a Cloudflare Worker), which forwards them to OpenAI and streams the answer back. The photo and the text are held in memory for the length of the request and then discarded. We do not store, log, or keep your photos, your prompts, or the recipes generated from them.
The photos you take of your drink are never uploaded anywhere. Neither is your recipe book, your notes, or your saved locations.
The identifiers we use
To stop one device from running up an unlimited AI bill, each request carries two identifiers:
- A random ID generated on your phone the first time you use the app. It's a random number — not your name, not your Apple ID, not an advertising identifier, and not tied to anything about you.
- An App Attest key from Apple, which lets our server confirm the request came from the real Poured app rather than a script impersonating it.
The only thing our server keeps against those identifiers is a counter — how many recipes have been generated today — and it expires automatically within about a day. We don't build a profile, and we have no way to connect that counter to you as a person.
Location
Poured asks for your location only if you tap "Add location" while saving a drink, and never at launch. When you do, your approximate coordinates are sent to Apple Maps to look up bars and restaurants nearby, so you can pick one from a list. Only the name you choose is saved, as text, on your device.
Your location is never sent to our servers and never sent to OpenAI. You can decline the permission and still use every other part of the app.
Who else handles your data
Poured has no third-party SDKs inside it. Three companies are involved in making it work, each seeing only what it needs:
- OpenAI — receives the menu photo and the drink text in order to read the menu and write the recipe. It does not receive our identifiers, so requests reach it unlinked to any device. OpenAI's API terms state that data submitted through the API is not used to train their models.
- Cloudflare — hosts the server that relays those requests. Like any web host, its network handles connection metadata such as IP addresses in the ordinary course of serving traffic.
- Apple — provides App Attest (the anti-abuse check) and Apple Maps (the nearby-venue search).
Each of these companies handles the data it receives under its own privacy policy.
What we don't do
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting SDKs
- No advertising and no ad identifiers
- No tracking you across other apps or websites
- No selling or sharing your data — not now, not ever
- No user profiles, no marketing emails, no newsletters
Your choices and your rights
Because your data lives on your phone, you control it directly:
- Delete any recipe from within the app at any time
- Delete the app to erase your entire recipe book, photos and all
- Revoke camera, photo-library, or location access whenever you like in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security
If you're in the EU, the UK, or California, you have rights to access, correct, delete, and port your personal data, and to object to its processing. You're welcome to email us to exercise them — though in practice we hold no personal information about you beyond a short-lived, anonymous usage counter, so there is nothing for us to hand over or delete. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are used under California law.
Children and age
Poured is about cocktails and is intended for people of legal drinking age in their country. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we'll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Poured handles data, we'll update this page and move the effective date at the top. Material changes will be called out in the app or on this site rather than slipped in quietly.
